Not sure if TEFL is for you? Start here

(This course is non-accredited and intended as an introduction only. For an accredited certificate recognised by employers, see our 120-hour course.)

This 40-hour course gives you a real taste of what it means to teach English abroad. You’ll learn the foundations of English grammar, classroom management, and lesson planning, everything to help you decide if a TEFL career is the right path.

Please note your digital certificate can take up to 42-72hrs after completion of the course.

What can I do with a 40 hour TEFL Certificate?

The 40-hour certificate is a great introduction to TEFL, but it’s exactly that: an introduction. It shows you’ve covered the basics of English grammar, lesson planning, and classroom management, and it’s ideal if you’re still deciding whether teaching English is right for you.

However, most schools, language academies, and placement programmes — including EPIK, JET, and the British Council — require a minimum of 120 hours of accredited TEFL training. If you’re serious about landing a paid teaching job abroad, the 40-hour certificate alone won’t get you there.

Think of it as a taster. If you enjoy the course and want to teach professionally, upgrading to the Go TEFL 120-hour course is the natural next step and the qualification that actually opens doors.

Lastly it is not accredited. Only the 120 hour course is accredited by ACCREDITAT.

📚 4 focused units covering everything you need to get started:

Unit 1: Introduction to TEFL Never taught before? Perfect. This unit starts from the very beginning, what TEFL actually is, how language learning works, and what makes a great English teacher. By the end you will understand exactly what is expected of you in a classroom and feel confident enough to walk into your first lesson.

Unit 2: Language Awareness & Grammar You don't need to be a grammar expert to teach English but you do need to understand it well enough to explain it clearly. This unit covers the essential grammar your students will ask you about, explained in plain English so it finally makes sense.

Unit 3: Lesson Planning The difference between a lesson that flows and one that falls apart is almost always in the planning. This unit gives you a simple, repeatable framework for structuring lessons that actually work, so you never walk into a classroom without a plan again.

Unit 4: Classroom Management Knowing your subject is one thing. Managing a room full of students is another. This unit covers the practical skills that new teachers wish someone had taught them earlier, how to set expectations, handle tricky moments, keep energy levels up, and make sure every student stays engaged.
